About Valuable
In the quiet language of objects, collectible design weaves tales of meaning and ritual, transcending the merely utilitarian to embrace the sacred and the symbolic.
Beyond beauty and craft, collectible design stands as a quiet act of resistance and affirmation in today's world. It confronts social and political contours, revealing the tensions between sustainability and consumption, tradition and innovation, center and margin. Through honoring vernacular wisdom and marginalized voices, these works become more than possessions—they become statements of identity, resilience, and hope.
Valuable opens the door to this layered world, exploring how collectible design today is a dynamic ritual space where symbolism meets social conscience, and where each chosen object becomes a ritual performance of meaning in our contemporary lives.
Team
Valuable is founded by the Romanian collectible design gallerist Adela Maria Marius and has as the creative director, the internationally recognized designer Bogdan Ciocodeică.
For Hôtel de Béhague / Romanian Embassy, the inaugural exhibition Valuable presents a careful curation of established Romanian designers and artists, celebrating professionals in the Romanian creative industry.
The significant presence of Romanian designers, which is growing in Paris, was the foundation of the Valuable project. On the one hand, designers such as Radu Abraham, Bogdan Ciocodeică, Cosmin Florea, and Șerban Ionescu are creators who have built their careers through a strong connection with the city of Paris. On the other hand, Romanian art galleries have had a significant presence at fairs such as Art Basel and Paris Photo, consolidating a consistent Romanian presence.
Valuable brings these forces together for the first time, and the convergence of artworks and collectible design objects opens up this research by the exhibition's curators, Adela Maria Marius and Bogdan Ciocodeică, on the bridge between design objects and artworks.
The object—with its archaic ritual powers—and the work—with its history and culture—intertwine before our eyes, revealing their common rhythm through their differences. The constraints themselves become a field of exploration for curators. The role of objects has evolved significantly throughout history, influenced by changes in society's needs, cultural transformations, technological advances, or economic trends. Symbolism and meaning become primary notions in a world that is constantly redefining itself.
Objects, through the predominance of symbols that blur the boundaries set by notions, become a language of personal reflections, philosophical, social, or cultural concepts.
